Coach Timothy Cozart, better known as “Coach Chef”, was born and raised in Durham, NC. He was first introduced to organized track and field during high school in 1981, after a knee injury kept him from participating in his first love, football. He has been coaching since 2008. He is a USATF Level 2 Youth/Throw Coach, his philosophy based on goal setting, and teaching every aspect of the sport from the obvious physical attributes needed to the rules as well as the mental and nutritional aspects. He takes a holistic approach to coaching does not concern his coaching as much with winning but becoming a better athlete with each practice and performance. He feels that with this approach, his athletes will not go into any competition with unrealistic goals and will concentrate on factors that he or she can control and not another athlete’s performance. He feels that as a youth coach his job is to prepare his students for the next level in the sport as well as the next step in life.
